Engage and Mobilize Your Employees

What Gets in the Way of Engagement?

Where Do You Think Things Went Off Track?

What's Working in Your Favor?

According to Gallup 68% of employees are disengaged in the US, and only 13% of employees worldwide are engaged, and one quarter of employees report they are actively disengaged. The costs of this situation are staggering in terms of lost productivity and the cost of replacing employees – reaching billions of dollars!

  • You’re not getting the productivity to sustain success you must have.

  • Your people are disengaged and disconnected.

  • You’re finding it difficult to recruit, retain and develop people.

  • Morale is low and employee turnover continues to increase, and

  • Negative feedback is pervasive in the workplace.

Engaged employees are involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work.

The challenge of engaging and mobilizing employees can feel fragmented and unproductive.

Reading Minds is Impossible

Many employees are frustrated because they feel they have to read their manager’s mind. They don’t know how they are doing nor how they can do better. The annual performance review is sometimes their only chance to find out, and that event is so stressful and formal the environment is not conducive for improvements.

Spans of Control Contribute to the Problem

The situation is not completely the fault of management either. In some organizations, spans of control have become so large managers have to complete multiple performance reviews every three or four days.

A Simple, Powerful and Practical Solution

We have developed many simple strategies and have proven and fine-tuned them in the field to engage and mobilize employees – minimal cost to implement, can be put into place immediately, and have exponential impact.

Ask Yourself These 7 Questions

There are seven simple questions every leader must answer and communicate to employees. Here’s where many leaders miss the mark with their messaging – frequency counts! Just like advertising and social media rely on frequency, so should you. Small, informal conversations about performance go a long way – especially when they include teachable moments from your expertise about different situations and details.

  1. What do I expect from you?

  2. What are you doing well?

  3. What, if anything, can you be doing better?

  4. What, if anything, do I want you to do better?

  5. (If appropriate): What will happen if you improve (e.g., more responsibility, more time with leadership, more desirable assignments)?

  6. (If appropriate): What will happen if you don’t improve?

  7. How can I help?

All of these questions are important. However, pay closest attention to the last one. It shows the employee you actually care, and you’re neither abdicating responsibility, shifting blame or being manipulative. Invite us to come alongside you to guide and support your initiatives.
